Teachre Training GP (Good Practice) Program is an initiative that was launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in fiscal 2005. It selects, in a competitive process involving national, public and private universities, educational projects at teacher training institutions (chiefly at university undergraduate and graduate levels) that have distinctive projects for developing and improving pedagogical programs aimed at nurturing highly qualified teachers for elementary and secondary schools. Institutions that apply to MEXT and are selected under this program are eligible for financial assistance.
A total of 101 proposals have been submitted by universities and junior colleges under this program (four submitted jointly by multiple institutions and 97 by institutions working independently, broken down as follows: 55 national institutions; three public institutions; and 39 private institutions). Of the proposals that have been submitted, a total of 34-two joint submissions, 20 submissions by national universities, and 12 submissions by private institutions (including one by a junior college) were approved.
A proposal that was submitted by the College of Education of Tamagawa University entitled "A Hands-On Learning Project for Nurturing Real-Life Teaching Skills: An Assessment on Regional Collaboration Programs" and a proposal that was submitted by Tamagawa University and six other national and private universities entitled "The creation of advanced teacher training programs through collaboration among universities: The realization of new training programs for solving current educational issues" were selected by MEXT for its Teacher Training GP Program to promote the training of teachers at university undergraduate and graduate faculties. |
