1929
Opening of Tamagawa. There are 111 students in the Kindergarten, Elementary Division, Lower Secondary Division and "Juku," and 18 teachers.
Operations of Tamagawa Gakuenmae Station on the Odakyu Line begins.
1930
Tamagawa invites a leading Austrian skier Hannes Schneider to visit, making a contribution to the sport of skiing in Japan.
Consecration ceremony for the chapel.
1931
Denmark gymnastic authority Niels Bukh is invited to Tamagawa, along with 25 others.
1932
The Children's Encyclopedia is published, the first of its kind in Japan.
1937
The Choir performs Beethoven's Symphony Number 9 (Ode to Joy), conducted by Joseph Rosenstock. It is the first time that the Ninth Symphony is performed at Tamagawa.
1947
Permission to establish Tamagawa University Faculty of Arts and Education and Faculty of Agriculture is granted.
Permission to establish the Lower Secondary Division is granted under the New Junior High School Directive.
Permission to establish the Elementary Division is granted under the New Elementary School Directive.
1948
Permission to establish the Upper Secondary Division is granted under the New High School Directive.
1950
Permission to establish the Department of Education by Correspondence is granted. Kindergarten Division is approved by Tokyo Metropolitan government.
1952
First graduating class of Tamagawa University. The long-cherished goal of a comprehensive campus is realized.
1961
Tamagawa Mexico Goodwill Delegation is dispatched. A demonstration of Japanese Arts is given.
1962
Permission to establish Tamagawa University Faculty of Engineering is granted.
1963
Tamagawa and Seijyo Gakuen jointly invite Mr. Krucken Hauser, the Principal of the Austrian National Ski School.
1965
Permission to establish the Tamagawa Junior College for Women is granted.
1966
Tubingen University Professor Dr. Bollnow visits the campus and is conferred the title of Tamagawa University Honorary Professor.
1967
Permission to establish Tamagawa University Graduate School of Engineering is granted.
Permission to establish the department of Childcare at Tamagawa Junior College for Women.
1968
Twenty-nine members of Tamagawa University Drama and Dance Troupe, representing Japan, participate in the Berlin Interdrama.
1971
Permission to establish the Graduate School for Arts and Education is granted.
1972
Permission to add the Department of Foreign Languages to the Faculty of Arts and Education School of Humanities and Department of Computer Sciences to the Faculty of Engineering of Tamagawa University is granted.
Completion of 50 meter indoor heated pool which is officially endorsed by the Japanese Swimming Association.
1973
Tetsuro Obara is appointed President of Tamagawa University, Tamagawa Junior College for Women, Tamagawa Academy and Chairman of the Tamagawa K-12 & University Board of Directors.
1976
Tamagawa opens a facility in Nanaimo, Canada.
1977
Permission to establish the Graduate School of Agriculture is granted.
1978
Permission to establish Drama and Fine Arts Major in Specialization of Arts is granted.
1980
Tamagawa celebrates its 50th anniversary,with a ceremony held at the Nippon Budokan in Japan.
1982
Tamagawa University's String Instruments Group performs at the Salzburg Music Festival.
1983
The 50th Anniversity Tamagawa Gymnasium and field are completed.
1984
Summer Language Study Tour in Canada of the Lower Secondary Division begins.
1987
Tamagawa University Museum of Educational Heritage opens.
1989
Tamagawa celebrates its 60th anniversary with a musical ceremony held at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.
Tamagawa University Drama and Dance Troupe perform in the United States and Canada.
1992
The new school building for the Elementary Division is completed.
1993
The first international exchange program at elementary school level using a television conferencing system is launched.
1994
Yoshiaki Obara takes office as President of Tamagawa University, Tamagawa Junior College for Women, Tamagawa Academy and Chairman of the Tamagawa K-12 & University Board of Directors.
The Junior College Specialization Course (General Education) is established.
1998
A computer network (CHaT Net) linking students, homes and teachers is launched.
2000
Tamagawa is granted ISO14001 certification: the world's first for a comprehensive institution.
Permission to build the Tamagawa University School of Business Administration is granted.
2001
Permission to establish the Tamagawa University College of Education and College of Arts is granted.
2002
The Integrative Human Science Program of Tamagawa University is chosen as a 21st Century Center of Excellence Program by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
The Faculty of Arts and Education is transformed into the School of Humanities.
Permission to establish the Department of Liberal Arts in School of Humanities and Department of Early Childhood Care Development and Education in College of Education at Tamagawa University is granted.
2003
Department of Mechanical Systems, Department of Intelligent Information Systems, Human Informatics Course, Department of Media-Network Science and Department of Management Science in Faculty of Engineering are established.
2004
Department of Management Science in the Faculty of Engineering is granted ISO9001 certification.
Application is submitted to establish the Department of Bioenvironmental systems and Department of Life Science in the Faculty of Agriculture.
Permission to establish the Graduate School of Management is granted.
K-12 divisions are granted CITA certification.
2005
Permission to establish the Department of Comparative Cultures in College of Humanities and Department of Media Arts in College of Arts is granted.
Permission to establish Philosophy Major in Graduate School of Humanities and Graduate School of Education is granted.
Permission to establish the Graduate School of Education is granted.
2006
We have revised our organization chart in English effective 2006.
School of Humanities becomes College of Humanities.
Faculty of Agriculture becomes College of Agriculture.
Faculty of Engineering becomes College of Engineering.
School of Business Administration becomes College of Business Administration.
Department of Intelligent Information Systems and Media-Network in the College of Engineering are also granted ISO9001 certification.
First year education at Tamagawa University is chosen as a "Support Program for Distinctive University Education (GP)" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)
Art Center is completed
Tamagawa Academy Upper Campus is completed
K-12 Educational System, a 12-year education program from the preschool department and elementary school level to high school level starts
Agreement regarding linkage and cooperation for the cultivation of teachers, etc. with the Yokohama City board of education is concluded
Agreement regarding linkage and cooperation between Tamagawa University and Machida City with Machida City is concluded
Permission to establish the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management in the College of Business Administration is granted (established in 2007)
Permission to establish the Graduate School of Engineering (Brain Informatics Major and System Sciences Major) is granted (established in 2007)
2007
Tamagawa Academy International Class(E-TRAC class) is established
Tamagawa University Brain Science Institute is established
Tamagawa University is fully accredited by Japan University Accreditation Association (JUAA) and becomes its full member.
Agreement regarding linkage and cooperation between Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education and the Graduate School of Education (Teaching Profession) is concluded
2008
Department of Intelligent Mechanical Systems and Department of Software Science are established
Graduate School of Education (Teaching Profession) is established
"Origins of the Social Mind" program of Tamagawa University is chosen as a Global-COE (Center od Excellence) Program by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)
Tamagawa Academy is chosen as a Super Science Highschool by MEXT
2009
Tamagawa Academy accredited by International Baccalaureate Organization as a Middle Years Program school
Memorandum promising mutual cooperation concluded with Machida City Tourist and Convention Bureau
2010
“Basic agreement regarding coordination and cooperation between universities in Aoba Ward and the Aoba Ward of Yokohama City” concluded with Aoba Ward, Yokohama City
Graduate School of Brain Sciences (Brain Sciences Major) Doctorate Program established at Graduate School. Human Sciences Master’s Program, English Education Master’s Program established at Graduate School of Humanities
