The policies of the Tamagawa University Office of Intellectual Property are based on the goal of contributing to society not only through research results accumulated over the years (such as patents obtained by its Colleges of Agriculture and Engineering), but through wide application of its intellectual property. To this end, the office widely promotes industry-university collaborations, gathering and sharing the content and results of staff research and collaborating with regional companies and organizations.
Following its fiscal year 2010 reorganization, the Office of Intellectual Property is now a department within the Research Institute. To strengthen academic research, the Office of Intellectual Property seeks to enhance its partnership with the Office of Research Coordination and to achieve a consistent, successful flow of research promotion, intellectual property management, and social contribution.
Primary roles of the Office of Intellectual Property:
1.Formulation of basic policy on creation, protection, management, and use of intellectual property
2.Support for patent applications related to university research; support for technology transfers to companies
3.Support for incubation of university research results and startup support for venture businesses
4.Industry-academia-government collaboration and joint efforts with community organizations
5.Support for contractual obligations related to technology transfers
6.Management and protection of the university’s intellectual property |
