The Research Center conducts studies on the appropriate methods for cultivating teachers for kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools and senior high schools, as well as appropriate training methods for enhancing the abilities of people currently working as teachers. Comprehensive and collaborative research is being conducted on teacher cultivation, licensing, employment and training.
Programs for cultivating and training teachers who can fully respond to the social needs for the Zenjin development of each child are being studied, developed and implemented. At the same time, teaching materials and teaching methods are also being developed with training provided to cultivate teachers having practical competencies.
Research activities by individuals and groups are being conducted mainly in the following three areas.
1. Research and development of curriculum structures
The curricula for cultivating and training teachers are being studied and developed to enable people to become and continue to work as teachers in each stage of school education, with an emphasis on the qualifications that need to be acquired.
2. Research and development of programs to cultivate teachers
Programs for cultivating teachers are studied and implemented, with an emphasis on the qualifications and abilities that need to be acquired in the undergraduate years to become a good teacher and how to cultivate such qualifications and abilities.
3. Research and development of teacher training programs
Teacher training programs are being developed and implemented at the graduate level and at schools to overcome educational issues and enhance the abilities of teachers to meet the expectations of parents and children.
4. The Japan U.S. Teacher Education Consortium
The Japan U.S. Teacher Education Consortium (JUSTEC) holds annual conferences for teacher and education professionals with the aim of pursuing quality teaching and intellectual exchange among education professionals in Japan and the U.S. Tamagawa University has been closely involved with JUSTEC since its establishment in 1987.
Because Tamagawa University has been recognized for its ongoing contribution and support, Tamagawa was selected to become a JUSTEC hub-university and has been supporting JUSTEC since 2010. For more information about JUSTEC, our mission and how to get involved, please see the JUSTEC homepage.
