[2] Limitations/Notes in using RPCS Basic printer driver

Some setting in follows depends on your printer/MFP.

    [In General]

    • To avoid problems in general, make sure that there is plenty of free disk space.
    • If virtual memory on a Windows operating system is set lower than usual , insufficient memory errors will occur and drawing operations in applications or printer drivers will not perform properly.
Documents might not print correctly or the following problems might occur:
      • Application errors.
      • Printing discontinues without warning.
      • "Command Error" appears on the display panel of the printer and printing discontinues.
Increase the memory setting for virtual memory, and then start printing. If this is not helpful, add additional memory to the computer.
    • This driver supports both English and Japanese Windows. Windows in other languages are not supported.
    • With some applications (e.g. CorelDRAW, Visio), complicated images may take a long time to print when the "Print as bitmap" is "Off". For faster printing, choose "On"(Print as bitmap) on the "Setup" tab

    [OS/Windows Related Issues]

    • When the spooler is paused, please do not send the print job.
    • If a Separator Page is selected, some documents may not print as expected.
    • Please do not change the "Print Processor" setting on "Advanced" tab. Some documents may not print as expected.

    [With Driver Settings]

    • [Copies] in [Setup] Tab:
      • When "Copies" is selected on the driver's "Setup" tab, the value may not be reflected in the application print dialog box. Be sure to set the number of copies only in the driver, not in the application.
    • [Staple] in [Setup] Tab:
      • When you print a booklet document with [Finisher SR3000], [Booklet Finisher C810], or [Finisher BF12], please select "2 at center, legs back" on the driver's "Setup" tab. If you use an other finisher, please select "2 at center, legs face" on the driver's "Setup".
    • [Duplex/Booklet] and [Staple] in [Setup] Tab:
      • When "booklet" is selected on [Duplex/Booklet] or "2 at center, legs face" is selected on [Staple], the driver stores the temporary file in HDD.
The driver may fail to crete the temporary file if it doesn't have the proper permission to the temporary folder [%TEMP%(%TMP%)]. Also, printing a large document may fail if the disk space is not enough to store the temporary file. In this case, please retry after enlarging the free disk space.
    • [Tray] in [Paper Size Setting] Tab:
      • It may take a long time to print a document if the orientation of the document and tray's paper feed orientation are different.
The printing may become faster by changing [Job Load Distribution] in [Misc.] Dialog.

    [Graphics/Images/Fonts/Texts]

    • When graphics images or text printed as graphics images are not printed as they appear on your computer screen, change the "Print as bitmap" on the "Setup" tab.
    • Documents that contain fonts not installed on your computer will not print correctly. Make sure your document only contains fonts installed on your computer
    • Printed result of Gray patterns might be different from that on the screen, depending on the application.
    • Part of image data on the screen might not be printed depending on the application.

[CMYK used for Black and White Documents]

    • When selecting "Color" from "Color/ Black and White" setting in the "Setup" Tab, black and white document may be printed as a color job, depending on application or data. If you want to print a document in black and white, select "Black and White" in "Color/ Black and White" setting.
    • Some application ignores the printer driver's "Color/Black and White" setting. When you can set "Color/Black and White" in the application's print dialog, please be sure to set both the application and the printer driver settings.
    • A black and white document with 4 bit/pixel graphics may be printed in full color (CMYK).

    [Point and Print]

    • Spooled EMF jobs do not support [Usercode] and [User Authentication].
    • Spooled EMF jobs do not support the following job types.
      - Sample Print
      - Locked Print
      - Hold Print
      - Stored Print
      - Send to Document Server

    [Help issues]

    • If the resolution setting of Display is smaller than 800x600, "Information Help" window dialog may be oversized on the display. In this case, to close the window, click "X" button on the right corner of the window dialog.
    • This printer driver doesn't support "?" button at the upper-right corner of the dialog.

    [Using Multiple Printers and MFPs]

    • This printer driver supports printing to different models of the printers and MFPs. The different printers and MFPs may print in slightly different color even if the document is the same.
    • This printer driver allows the user to choose functions even if they are not available with a specific printer/MFP.
In such case, the print result may not be as expected, some settings may be ignored, or the printer/MFP may display an error message on the front panel.

    [Limitation of Printers and MFPs]

    • When "Job Type" is set to "Send to Document Server" on the driver's "Setup" tab, you can't select "Custom paper size" in "Print paper size".
    • Even if you print a document in "Duplex", some paper sizes are not printed in "Duplex".

[Printers and MFPs with Limited Support]

As the RPCS Basic driver is designed to support the latest printers and MFPs, some new features may not be supported when used with the older printers and MFPs.
Please verify the system operation before the use.

    • Some printing features may not be supported with certain input trays if the tray's paper type is set to something other than plain or recycled paper (ex. Thick) as the device configuration.
    • Even if the output tray is specified in the RPCS Basic driver, the printer may output to a different tray if the output tray is an optional tray.
    • When the staple is selected, the printer may staple in different direction in some cases.
    • When the punch is selected, the printer may punch in different direction in some cases.
    • If a document contains pages of the different orientation or different paper sizes, the document may print in the unintended direction in some cases.
    • When the Layout or Duplex/Booklet is selected, the print result may not be as intended in some cases.
    • Depending on a document, the RPCS Basic printer driver may take longer to print a document than the device-specific RPCS driver.

    [Other issues]

    • Additional Page Count in Duplex Printing:
An extra page is added to the end of odd-paged duplex jobs. This for to keep printed layout. The added page might be incremented in the printer's counter. For the cases where, "Reverse Order" is checked(available), or 2 at Center" in [Staple] Setting, and so on.
    • Black and White documents and two color's documents might be printed in full color (CMYK).
    • If the driver's setting is color printing, documents that look black-and-white or two-color may be printed in full color (CMYK), incrementing the device's toner usage counter. To ensure the use of only a single toner, please set the color mode to "Black and White", or select "Separate into CMYK" and specify the color.
    • Clearing the checks for all toner color for "Separate into CMYK" is equivalent to checking all CMYK toner.
