Personal Project
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) Personal Project is an opportunity for students to explore an area of personal interest in a structured academic setting. Students choose what project they want to accomplish, how to achieve their learning goal, and how to evaluate the product’s or outcome’s success. Students follow the MYP Inquiry Cycle to independently investigate, plan, act, and reflect on a personally defined goal, resulting in the completion of a product or outcome. Although each student is provided a teacher-supervisor to support them in accomplishing the project, the project is still student-driven and takes place outside the classroom.
As the culminating assessment task for the IB MYP and a vital stage in the IB Core continuum, the Personal Project allows students to demonstrate their understanding and implementation of Approaches to Learning (ATL) that they have developed over the IB MYP. The project is completed over months.
The IB MYP Personal Project Exhibition is an event where students can apply the knowledge acquired over MYP. It is also an opportunity for students to demonstrate new skills acquired and their communication skills in presenting their projects to a broader audience.
