| The 21st century is also called the age of brain science, and its major breakthroughs are expected world wide. The results of brain science are being utilized in many different ways within society, such as in education and medicine. Following this trend of the times, we have expanded the Brain Science Research Center, which originally belonged to the Research Institute, and made it independent under the name the "Brain Science Institute." |

First, while steadily advancing brain research that holds the global forefront position, we present exciting research results focusing on higher brain functions to the entire world. The workings of the mind, which is the most important issue for human beings, take place on the stage of the brain. Thus, understanding the functions of the brain means understanding the workings of the psyche, and by extension, this links to understanding our basic natures. From this point of view, it can be said that profound significance exists within our school as a place of research that attempts to fundamentally penetrate the human mind through brain research within a framework of "Zenjin" Education.
We also conduct research that respects the application aspect of brain science. We are involved in research that is necessary for the ability to instill robots with intelligence functions unique to human beings and establish high level functions. In addition, we conduct research in line with language development and cognitive function of infants and apply research results based on such a scientific foundation to the fields of language education and cognitive development, developing learning programs in this process. Moreover, we are also advancing research regarding the relationship between brain research and society.
Through intimate linkages with our undergraduate departments and graduate schools, The Brain Science Institute also advances contributions to education. Via this linkage, students are able to conduct research activities within master's curriculum and doctoral curriculum at the Brain Science Institute. Also, the Institute actively participates in educational activities in each undergraduate department. In addition to brain researchers, the Institute feels strongly about contributing towards the cultivation of educators and technicians with a firm understanding of brain function.
