Description of Duties
Introduction
Tamagawa Academy IB Programs follows the IB MYP and DP curricula and we are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate MYP and DP Visual Arts Teacher to join our team in April 2026. This full-time position involves teaching students with varying levels of artistic skills and abilities, guiding them through the MYP/DP curriculum, and inspiring a deep understanding and appreciation of visual expression, creative processes, and artistic techniques. Our school seeks a teacher who values inquiry and supports students in becoming critical thinkers who can solve problems independently. The teacher should create a student-centered classroom that is differentiated for diverse learners and fosters each student’s growth and success.

MYP and DP Visual Arts Teacher
(The position includes being part of a Homeroom team.)

Start Date:
April 1st, 2026
(This is the start of the school year.)

Skills and Qualifications:
Must have a valid teaching certification/license from your home country, with a specialization in Visual Arts, obtained through an accredited program that includes a teaching practicum completed in your home country
  • Minimum qualification of a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching Visual Arts at the mid/high school level, with experience in the IB MYP and/or DP highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the IB MYP and DP curriculum for Visual Arts
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and the wider school community
  • Ability to create engaging lesson plans that cater to different learning styles
  • Experience using inquiry-based teaching methods
  • Proficiency in using technology to enhance learning and teaching in the classroom
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Advanced proficiency in English (spoken and written)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach IB MYP Visual Arts to students in G6-10 for the first school year, with a possibility of teaching DP Visual Arts in the future
    (Our teachers have an average teaching workload of 18 periods per week, 50 minutes per period.)
  • Design, prepare, and deliver lessons and assessments in line with the IB MYP and DP guidelines and standards
  • Provide academic support to students when required
  • Evaluate student progress through both formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback
  • Maintain up-to-date records of student progress and achievement and communicate effectively with parents and guardians
  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages inquiry, critical thinking, and a passion for science
  • Prepare IB and school documentation as required
  • Perform student supervisory/homeroom duties and other general duties as requested
  • Supervise and guide students in the completion of their PP, EE, or CAS requirements
  • Collaborate with the MYP and DP coordinators and other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive delivery of the IB curriculum
  • Collaboratively work with colleagues to administer different school committees, engage in school-wide initiatives, and contribute to the school community beyond the classroom
  • Use computer literacy tools (Google Workspace, ManageBac, Microsoft Office)

Sample Salary:
Degree: Bachelor degree
Teaching Experience: 15 years
Annual income: approximately 6.6 million yen
