「汝等は地の塩なり世の光なり」

機関誌『学園日記』『全人』『全人教育』誌などを繙くと、各部卒業生への祝辞が数多く掲載されている。「卒業、おめでとう」と言うことから始まり、時々の学内事情などを交えて書き綴っている。創立50周年を迎える3年前の1976（昭和51）年3月、小原國芳は大体育館での卒業式の壇上に登った。
このとき「汝等は地の塩なり、世の光なり」（マタイ伝5章13節‐16節など）の聖書の言葉から「塩は混濁の世を洗い清める勇士のことであり、光とは暗闇を照らす光明となる者である」（『全人教育』第319号』）と述べている。あなたは「地の塩、世の光」になりなさいと言うのではなく、「地の塩、世の光」であると言う。この言葉については「イエスこそが光であるが、今や迫害に耐えながら、少数者であっても、塩、光としての役割をなお果たす信仰者が《地の塩》《世の光》と宣言される」（『新共同訳新約聖書略解』）と解説されている。
「地の塩、世の光」の言葉は、小原が生涯取り組んだ新教育普及に取り組むとき、自らを奮い立たせる言葉であったのではないか。だからこそ卒業生たちも「地の塩、世の光」として「人生の最も苦しい いやな 辛い 損な場面を真っ先きに微笑を以って担当せよ」と池の石碑に刻まれている玉川モットーを忘れないで欲しいと願った。
文章の終わりは「みな様の家庭に、子たちの上に、マコトのシアワセがありますように山から祈って居ります」と祈りの言葉で締めくくっている。卒業式祝辞の最後の言葉となった。

Ye Are the Salt of the Earth. Ye Are the Light of the World.
In his final graduation address in March 1976, Kuniyoshi introduced the words from the Bible to Tamagawa graduates：“ Ye are the salt of the earth. Ye are the light of the world.” He did not expect them to ‘become’ the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Rather, he believed that they were already the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
Perhaps, paraphrasing a paragraph of the Gospel of Matthew 5：13-16, he was attempting to remind the graduates of Tamagawa’s guiding motto.
